Penannular Dragon with Twist work
This Penannular brooch is hand forged from 1/8” square surgical stainless steel. We put each twist into the metal one at a time to make the pattern on the body of the brooch. It measures approximately 2 1/2” in diameter. The pin is 3/32” thick and 3” long. These are heavy duty enough to hold a wool cloak, but light enough to wear on a medium weight shawl. They also look great worn as a lapel pin.
Please note that these Brooches are hand forged so they will differ slightly from the photo. Each piece I make is unique in its own way.
The Penannular Brooch or semi-circular brooch is one of the most ancient ways of holding two pieces of fabric together. its origins date as far back as the Roman Empire. The Vikings and the Celts made this design famous.
